Based on handling one in store, the Air magsafe battery is pretty sweet.

It would be sweeter if it fit the 17 phones, and by extension, the 16, 15, 14 ......

To make it fit properly ONLY on the Air is understandable, it fills the back of the Air "properly", yet still insulting to make the battery size solely based on how it appears on the Air.

My gen 1 apple magsafe battery looks fine on the Air and works on all other iPhones (I have lent it out to others, like at the airport).

The Air battery would function on other iPhones .... when mounted sideways.

I was really looking forward to a new Apple MagSafe battery, with USB-C and wired output option.

My gen 1 does the following:

  • Charges iPhone while in my pocket.
  • Will pass wired charging through to iPhone, making it a great hotel nightstand charging pad. It will charge the phone overnight and itself.
  • Charges Airpods
  • Get's warm but doesn't become a nuclear blast furnace like the Anker 621 magsafe battery bank
The Air magsafe battery seems to add wired output to the above list, so there is that ....

Might I still buy it? 51/49 yes.

Some pics of the gen 1 charging. It takes about 30 seconds for the iPhone Air pass through charging to ramp from 18w to 25w.

I have both as well although I haven't needed to use the pack, yet. I like the new form factor of the gen 2 battery.

Side note: One thing I have noticed is that when I connect the Air to power, it doesn't show (on the lock screen) how long it will take to charge the battery. I have to go into settings > battery to see the charging time. I thought iOS 26 was supposed to show on the screen, unless I misread the feature ability.
