The IBM PC came out when I was in college and I've been an active participant and user of personal technology since then. A few products come to mind when I hold and use the iPhone Air I purchased yesterday. These are my analogies, yours may vary.
If you find yourself nodding your head in agreement with any of the items on my list of "less is more" products, you probably owe it to yourself to checkout the iPhone Air.
- Palm Pilot Vx - a very different form from the original Palm Pilots. It came with much less storage (8meg vs 16, I think) and a smaller footprint but looking back it is my favorite PDA, a device category made irrelevant with smart phones.
- Motorola Razr flip phone - I use to carry two devices before the iPhone, a Palm Vx and a Motorola flip phone. At the time it was a minimalist design but did its basic task very well, making and receiving phone calls. It was easy to carry about everywhere, a feature missing from many other phones of that day.
- MacBook Air first generation - I still remember the "you have got to be kidding me!" feeling that I experienced when Steve Jobs pulled the MacBook Air out of the office envelop. And I also remember how much I enjoyed using that machine (its shortcomings did not affect my email and small spreadsheet focused work at the time). I've bounced a few times between the Air and the Pro laptops ever since.
- Oura ring - I've become a health stat junkie as I've entered my senior years. My wife and I both have an Oura ring and we compare sleep scores every morning (yes, we need to get out more). It's easy to wear and does not require me to go to bed with a watch on my wrist, or wear the same watch every day (I have too many watches).
