My iPhone Air MagSafe battery drained down from 100% to 0% in my bag twice now.

Anyone else experienced this? The only thing I can think of, besides it being just defective, is the magnets on my Kindle case are somehow tricking it into slowly discharging over the span of a few days.

From further testing it does appear to be the battery getting activated repeatedly by the Kindle case.

I've put the battery on top of my Kindle on the table and watched it on and off. The light on the back comes on periodically. It's already discharged down to 92% after spending half the day on there.

I guess I'll just have to keep them in separate pockets.

Some of the newer Kindles, especially the signature editions, have Qi charging. Wonder if it’s getting activated that way?

Good point. My Kindle does indeed have Qi charging. Although even when I just place the MagSafe battery on different parts of the Kindle case, without the Kindle being in there, the battery still lights up, leading me to think it's being woken up from sleep over and over and that's what's slowly discharging it.

That and the Kindle doesn't seem to have been charged at all.

Maybe the battery isn't working properly. It might be worth taking it to an Apple Store for diagnostics. Or even just to test if the batteries in the store act the same with an empty Kindle case.

The reason I suggest this is I'm pretty sure the battery communicates wirelessly with the phone it's attached to. I would expect that a lack of communication would prevent the battery from turning on the inductive charging coil. Or maybe the coil turns on as soon as any magnetic field is detected, and it stays on for some minimum interval like 30 secs. If that were repeated over several hours, it would certainly drain the battery.

There might be a firmware update for the battery, but I'm not sure how to check that, so some searching would be in order.

I think what it could be is it's just causing the battery to wake up from sleep over and over trying to see if it can do a MagSafe handshake or not.

I don't think we'll ever find out given the Air wasn't a huge seller and neither were the batteries.
