I must stay with alltel. But I have heard rumors that the new iphone(3g) will potentially work with alltel. Should I just get a phone with alltel now or wait to see if the iphone will work?

Those rumors would be incorrect since Alltel isn't GSM.

Not a chance. U can use sprint and verizons phones not gsm carriers.
