I use my iPhone as an alarm clock and CD cover viewer (using signal) while charging at night. It looks like the 3G may not come with a dock (but at least it comes with a SIM ejector tool:rolleyes: ). Could I keep my current iPhone dock and will it fit fine with the new shaped iPhone?

On the iPhone site it lists the Universal Dock as an iPhone option. This looks like the same dock that comes with the original iPhone, sans remote. If this is he case then maybe the current dock will work.

On the apple site it looks like the dock has a curve in it, this is the best picture I could find:

the universal dock is not the same as the dock that came with the iphone sans remote. it is a dock that works with any ipod or iphone. the way it works is that you have to get uinversal dock adapters, which you can find in the accessories section of the iphone page. buy the universal dock and some adapters if you want remote control of your phone, or buy the new 3G iphone dock if you want a cheaper one

I've got the dock that came with my 3rd Gen iPod. That was a pretty chunky beast so will a new iPhone fit in there? Would be awesome if so.

the problem is that without the correct dock, the only thing that is supporting the phone is the dock connector, so it puts stress on the plug and connector. i do this sometimes if i need to but it is not good for your phone

Can you explain the CD cover signal thing? Sounds interesting...

Thats really too bad that the iPhone is not coming with a dock... I used that the most out of any accessory... actually the only accessory. Typical of Apple -- they always slowly take away accessories from their products.

iPod -- Charging Brick gone
MB -- Remote gone

etc...

I'll miss it too. I liked how it kept the phone off of the desk in case of a water/coffee spill etc.

I'll have to figure somthing else out. $50.00 extra for somthing that used to come with the phone, is too much.

Ah, didn't think about that. Still, I've just discovered my employer gets me a discount at the apple store so I'll probs just get a new dock.
