iPhone and docking for stereo

Hello,
I am thinking to buy a mini hifi system for my iPhone. Example Onkyo 525 system. The problem is with the dock, when I plug my 2nd gen iPhone ver 2.1 into the dock only sound comes from one speaker on the hifi system. Similar with a Sony system. I am aware that the iphone has only one speaker at teh bottom of the iPhone. Thanks guys.

It has nothing to do with only having one speaker at the bottom.
It sounds like you have a problem either with your connection from your stereo to speakers (unless it plays, say, radio fine in both), or with the cable going from the dock to the stereo. Have you tried reseating the dock cable at both ends, making sure they're ALL the way in?
Second test is using another cable as the cable itself might be at fault.
