iphone and ipad not showing up in iTunes quite often

Anybody know what's causing this? It's a relatively new problem I'm seeing.

I see there's an SDK compatibility fix out there but otherwise I'm not sure what's cause this. Each time if I reinstall iTunes the devices show up.
