iPhone and iPhoto Synch issues and questions

I want to select only certain photos to be transferred to the iPhone. Right now in iTunes, it only shows "synch" all or select a particular year of photos. I created a folder on the left side of iPhoto and dropped only the pictures I want on my iPhone. This new folder is not recognized by iTunes so I can synch it. Anyone have a solution?

got it to work by exporting all photos to a file on my desktop and linking iTunes to it. Not the way I was hoping, but works.
