Phone doesn't show that it's syncing anywhere in iTunes or theres no tab recognizing it.
I have an iPhone 5 macbook pro all updated...
Top right corner under search of iTunes pane should be showing phone. You can always bring back the sidebar as well. Just go under view and hit Show Sidebar. Phone should show like it use to.
