Hi. I'm thinking of buying an iPhone with the intention of using it with a prepaid at&t (pick-your-plan). I don't have a SSN so I can't get a plan, but I intend on using at&t, and are not looking into hacking the device, at least not for now. I know prepaid has been doable in the past, but an at&t sales rep I talked to said they stopped that option at the end of last year. Of course, I don't trust a word of what he says, but at least it meant I couldn't buy from his store.
However, he might of course tell the truth. And now that it looks like the newest iPhones won't be unlocked and used through "alternative" means for a while, I don't want to end up with a 399 brick. Does anyone know if the prepaid option still works, and in that case how, or is that option shut down for good?
And will sales rep in Apple stores force you into credit checks and all that stuff in-store (like at&t will) or let you activate your phone and picking your plan at home?
