iPhone and safari is shuting down

hi sence I got the new iPhone 3g this is also my first one it has been shuting down and restarting after it shuts down and when it boots it boots to sleep mode. The other thing is that safari is randomly shuting down I heard is common? Anyway I need to know what to do about the phone restarting and what might be causing it.
