Couldnt find this anywhere and I'm sure plenty of people who have done this before, know the answer. I'm currently in line at an Apple Store on Long Island in New York and I'm curious how the process goes when the store opens and leading up to opening? I've done Black Friday lines and lines for like the PS4 release and Xbox One release but never one for Apple product. Do they come out and give numbers before the store opens or something? Do they just funnel groups of people into the store and not do numbers or anything like that at all? I'm just curious how things are going to happen in just under 8 hours now and what to expect. Thank you in advance for any info.

The Apple store at World Trade Center says they’re coming out at like 6/7 to give out tickets and take our orders then around 8 start rolling us in. I’m 4th in line with other members of this forum.

In the past they few launches the employees would come out and ask you what you wanted and give you a business card with the carrier, color, and capacity on it.

After you get this card, you can theoretically go home or work or whatever and come back later to buy the phone that day, though most people just continue waiting until the store opens and they let people in batches. The card is only valid for same-day.

I usually go to the Manhasset store, but I think the process is similar for all the stores.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm like number 70 in my line but with the hinting the employees gave on the count they have before the store closed, I'm good. I was sure they'd do something like that but wasn't certain. Had thoughts of hitting manhattan for this but didn't feel like dealing with LIRR in the morning to come home, rather than just driving home. Rush hour is going to be a pain but glad I took tomorrow off.

How crowded is it over there? Was thinking of getting there early in the morning to see how things were...

That's funny, I'm actually at the Manhasset store. I liked the idea of waiting outside the actual store rather than hitting Roosevelt field or walt Whitman mall, where they didn't seem sure as to where the line would be, whether it would be inside mall or outside it. For Sony store PS4 launch I was inside Roosevelt field waiting right outside the store but finding the open door to get in was a pain in the butt. I'm going to be sure to run to my car to grab a pen on my next leg stretching break for the cards so I'm ready to go. I'll definitely be waiting after getting the card, as I'm really enjoying this. 12 and a halfish hours is going to be the longest I've ever been in line and I was dreading it but it's been very nice and this time I'm not in a winter coat, scarf and gloves with a blanket, like my other times waiting, lol.

The line has probably between 100-120+ people now. I doubt anyone coming in the morning is getting a phone if people are buying 2.

So good for 150 people in line huh... which store is this?
I'm at Manhassat and they hinted at 200 in stock. A lot seem to be buying the maximum 2 phones so, I'm wondering how it's going to turn out for those over the 100 mark. Looks like about 200 people here so far and I've been here since about 7:40.

I actually wanted to drive out to Walt Whitman tomorrow morning, but I can't figure out these mall launches either, so I decided nevermind. I have a noon appointment for pick up an X anyways, but was hoping to buy an extra one for my mom. Looks like she'll have to wait, but I think she went to bought a new 8 Plus already.

Not bad, less people than we have here for sure. We were at about 120 as of about 9pm; guy a ways behind me in the que went down the line and counted the people and chairs. Got security out here too to handle any attempted line jumpers. Guy was ready to toss 2 people who some were complaining had slided in but, turned out they just came to hang with friends and were leaving.

Yeah my wife was at cheesecake factory at Walt Whitman earlier in the afternoon and she looked and didn't notice any lines so I suspect it's inside the mall. I could've gone since I would have been there before the mall closed and wouldn't have had to worry about finding the open door but I'm liking it outside on this nice night. I had decided that if there was already 100 people when I got here, then I'd head over to Walt Whitman instead but it looked good so I opted to stay.
