iPhone apps on the new iPad

The current ipad shows iphone apps in their "non-retina" mode, and enlarging them to full screen makes them look pretty ****.

Will the new iPad show iphone apps in their "retina" mode but only use half the screen, and allow you to zoom in

I do wonder how it will handle any apps that were never updated for the retina display on the iphone 4, enlarging those apps to full screen would be really something to look at.

Has anybody read anything about how it will work? (I'm thinking mostly spotify here...)

iPhone apps will run in Retina mode on the iPad 3, assuming the app has an iPhone retina mode. So basically, it will be 960x640 at 2X mode, for 1920 x 1280.
