Hi,

Is it possible to use the 3G iPhone as a modem (gateway) for MBP?

I've never asked myself this question, because all the mobile phones I've ever used, had this possibility, but the latest buzz around NetShare set me thinking.

Hopefully you were able to grab netshare because Apple pulled it off the store again, so now the only way to tether is through jailbreaking...

No, I wasn't...

Actually, as I've said, I've never doubted that's possible. I'm planning to buy an iPhone, but without this feature it's less attractive, less useful. Damn...

Does tethering allow emailing (with large attachments)?

you can do anything that requires an internet connection through tethering
jailbreaking isnt that hard

OK, full internet access than, right?

I'll be buying iPhone in Belgium, where it's not locked to any provider. Is jailbreaking still necessary in this situation (sorry, I'm absolutely not familiar with this procedure nor with iPhone's features)?

Thanks!

Yes it is. If the tethering app "netshare" is not on the app store anymore and you can not live without using your iPhone as a modem you have no other choice than jailbreak it! Theres no other way to get an app on an "original" iPhone than downloading it from the iTunes App store. And i dont think Apple will just put it on the Belgium iTunes store.

yeah, its as if you were connected to the internet via your home broadband

yes, jailbreaking is still necessary, it allows you to run apps and other things not from the app store

follow this then this, to tether your mbp

Thank you all for your help!

Apple should provide such a feature as a standard one, I think...

Why wouldn't they put it on the Belgium iTunes Store? It's still on the Canadian iTunes store.

It's gone from the Belgian Store.

Here is what I do not understand: my provider and my plan do allow using a mobile phone as a modem (I've got an unlimited data for a pc). Why these att restrictions should be automatically applied to all the customers of all the providers throughout the world?! That's just insane.

If you jailbreak and do a tiny bit of work using SSH you can use cracked .ipa (applications) on your iphone without paying! I have netshare for free and can give it to anyone if they want, just PM me. All you have to do is switch a file using SSH (meaning you have to jailbreak first) then you can open the cracked .ipa files in itunes and sync them up normaly! i have about $70 worth of apps for free!

illegal file sharing is not allowed on these forums
the tutorials i posted use free apps and does not require SSHing, which for a beginner could be hard

SERIOUSLY??? got 2 check that!!!

Alrighty....I dont see it...

Can you link it fellow canuck??? please?

It was still there at 9 this morning when I types Netshare and did a search in the iTunes store. I'll check when I get back home. If it's not there I'm glad I got it right away.

*** Added*** Just checked the Canadian iTunes store an its gone from here now too.
