iphone Av cable doesnt work through dock

I recently bought an apple av cable so that I could watch films from my iphone on my tv, Although it works well and the quality is good, if I plug the connector into the dock and put the phone in it, it doesnt work - the phone seems to have be directly connected to the cable....

Anyone else had this prob or have I got a duff cable?

Maybe the universal dock works differently then the iPhone dock does. That is the only thing I could think of as I have not tried this.

The cable doesn't work through the iphone dock.

jeniferkey is right - video output only works through the universal dock, not the iphone-specific dock...
