iPhone 6(S)/Plus iPhone backing up somewhere

Sometimes I see a syncing sign going around wirelessly, so maybe I have an app running somewhere on my iMac that automatically connects to the iPhone and backs it up but I don't know what app it would be.

I need to know where that backup is because I'm having trouble backing up on iTunes. (It says connection was lost even though I didn't unplug the USB, and when I tried again it's stuck on step 2 of 4)

Whatever Apple apps you have that are synced to iCloud, they have to upload their data to sync. Maybe that's what's going on. My Numbers App on iOS is linked to iCloud (so I don't accidentally lose files) and it "updates" via cellular any time I change anything in a document
