iPhone backup problem...

I decided to restore my iPhone since it was running slow after the 3.0 update. I made sure that I backed it up before i did so. It restored, and I accidently clicked "start as new iPhone" instead of "back up from..." Now when I go to restore it from backup it only gives me the option to restore it from the backup of the phone in its restored state. So, nothing goes on it. Where can I find the backup of my phone in its previous state? The only thing that I don't already have stored is my pictures, but they were very important to me since some were from my cruise vacation.
