We have not been able to encourage Apple to help with our broken screen. We gave my daughter an iPhone for Christmas. Last week she dropped it while sitting down. It hit the floor cracking the screen. Her Apple store wish to charge AU$379.00 US$265.00 to repair it. She is 21 and can’t easily afford the repair. So the dad, finished up speaking with Vic, an Apple iPhone supervisor. I explained the story saying I realised it was not a warranty issue but strongly believed the iPhone either has a design or manufacturing issue which impairs the product where other mobile phones seem stronger.
I mentioned I had two friends with broken screens and now seen many comments in forums sadly informing the world of the fragile screen problem and of Apples general reluctance to fix the problem. Vic advised Apple do not take notice of comments in forums as they cannot be relied on. I said I would like to quote him. I strongly believe people in forums are in affect speaking and communicating directly with the Brand.. Surely Apple has to be listening...
Vic told me the screen has to made of glass because of its performance and clarity. However, there is competition. Vic seemed unaware of the HTC Google Dream phone where the screen seems very robust with a similar touch screen performance.
So it seems, sadly my last route is to express my disappointment by whinging at Apple by email. Vic said I could email www.apple.com/feedback/iphone/html but while I think you will be listening, it seems you wont be helping. While Vic told me the phone damage is not Apples responsibility (agreed) the iPhone seems to me a disappointing and very fragile product.
