iPhone buying

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if AT&T has the iPhone at lower contracts mainly 1 year? Or monthly increments without buying unlocked iPhone. I might leave the country for longer periods of time in about a year and I don't want to pa AT&T roaming charges, but I really want an iPhone.
Any ideas/advice

You can buy a full price unlocked phone and not have to worry about contracts. AT&T (for personal customers) only does two year contracts.
