iPhone calls only work through handsfree kit, any help please?

Hi,

My iPhone has done this twice now. When I make or receive a call I cant hear anything through the speaker and the mic doesnt work, but if i plug my handsfree in it works fine through that?

Anyone else have this problem, I guess it things the headphones are plugged in all the time?

Do other system sounds work through the speakers or are all sounds muted except through the headphones?

If the latter then it's the headphone port, when it thinks headphones are connected it disables the speakers, t solution is to insert/remove the headphones a few times to jiggle the connection that's stuck in the headphone socket.

I've got the same problem as Alex has but the solution of Darren did not work in the slightest. I did already reset the software completely (without backup) but this did not help as well. I have a 3G with iOS 4. I'm getting quite desperate.
