iphone camera roll

I have an iphone 3GS running 3.1.2 (7D11) firmware. When I take a picture utilizing the built in camera software, an image of the photo that I took drops down to far left of the camera application window. However, no image of the photo appears in the "camera roll" photo album. The amount of photos in the camera roll remains at (53), that's the amount of photos that where there before the malfunction occurred. Anyone have any idea's as to how I can fix this?

Never heard of this, except in this thread, but I would suggest doing a restore and setting up as new.
