There is now a way to downgrade a 1.1.1 iPhone to 1.0.2, which then re-opens it to jailbreaking.

Over at Tuaw.com, someone posted in the thread (comment #27) that the procedure also worked for the iPod Touch, but gave absolutely no details (in other words, probably was making sh*t up.)

But...I think it's at least a possibility. And perhaps if you could restore the Touch to 1.0.2, then you could install the missing Apple apps, 3rd party apps, etc.

What do you think?

I don't think that the touch was hacked yet, so I don't see the point in downgrading it, all of the hacking efforts will now be put into 1.1.1.

The new iPhone firmware can't be hacked either. But downgrading allows you to. If you could install 1.0.2 on a Touch, you then might be able to.

It's not as good as a 1.1.1 jailbreak, but would be an interesting option.

EDIT- Here's some more info-

Apparently the guy used this method to downgrade his Touch firmware from 1.1.1 to 1.1, not to 1.0.2 from the iPhone. But hey it might be useful at some point (especially if 1.1.1 is hacked, and a later update breaks the hack.)
