iPhone - Cannot import photos

I cannot import photos I've taken on my iphone onto my MBP. I've tried iPhoto (says unrecognised file format with a file extension of JPG) and failed to work with image capture.

Anyone know what I need to do.

edit: Installed some updates and restarted. Photos imported OK.
