Bit of an odd one this. A few weeks ago, I went to sync my iPhone 4, at the time, NOT jailbroken, seemed successful as usual, nothing out the ordinary. Next day, tried to play music, tapped iPod icon, but message came up saying "No Music, you can download music from iTunes". Very strange. Tried syncing again, no errors, but didn't transfer any music from my iTunes library, which still shows all my music and videos. Usual message, sync complete, checked iPhone, still no music or videos.

Switched iPhone off and on, switched PC off and on, tried different USB cable, all the same, sync complete, all music showing in iTunes library, nothing transferred to iPhone.

To get the obvious out of the way at this point, wasn't jailbroken, was using the latest version of iTunes 10.4.1.10, using iOS version 4.3.5 version, all music to be sync'd is also ticked, no settings changed since previous successful sync where music DID sync.

Tried a total restore, first of all using previous backup settings, looked successful, all music and videos transferred over absolutely fine. Unplugged iPhone, all was good, music and videos there as expected.

Next sync, same symptom occurred, appeared successful, unplugged iPhone, went to play music, "No Music.....etc" appeared.

Tried a second total restore, starting totally fresh, re-installed iTunes, created a new library just for test purposes, downloaded iOS, used alternative Apple ID, same routine, successful transfer, unplug, another sync, "No music....etc".

At this point, done a restore, but this time ran the phone through a jailbreak afterwards so I could access with iPhone Browser. Ran jailbreak routine with Redsn0w as I've done many a time on other iPhones with success. Usual routine, ending up with iPhone stating "No music...etc",but using iPhone Browser, I can see all the media on the phone as it should be, copied some mp3 and photo files from iPhone, they're fine, so I know it's all there.

So (finally), I assume there's some file on the iPhone that it checks to build a database of what media files are there, so my guess is that it's being overwritten or becoming corrupt during each sync. Would I be right on this? And is there any way to a) prevent the endless cycle of success and failure and b) after a successful sync, copy a file from the iPhone which I can restore when the iPhone claims there's no music?

thanks in advance...
