Today, T-Mobile Germany and Apple announced the German release of the iPhone on November 9th. Price point will be 399€ (incl. 19% tax) with a 2 yr plan. Press release (in German). No specifics wether they will provide an "iPhone data plan" though. Current quasi-unlimited data plans are prohibitive.
T-Mobile has considerable EDGE and WiFi coverage in Germany.
Edit: The pricing is O.K. You could save, say, $45 by directly importing it from the U.S., which will exactly cover your shipping cost. I'd rather not waive EU warranty (laws that are pretty strict, and add to the manufacturer's cost).
