iPhone Contacts (1 in front of number)

I transferred contacts from my iPhone 3g to my iPhone 4s and for some reason all my contacts have a been saved with a 1 in front of it so the cellphone does not pick up the name and other data associated with the number. Is there some sort of setting that I can change on the phone so it can remove the 1 placed in front of the numbers?

I feel like I'm wrong, but I'm suggesting it anyway. It might be the international calling setting.
