Iphone Contacts Export?

I have a Iphone that is version 1.1.3 (a 1G phone), the guy stopped using and my mother bought it from him for $50. Now my question is how do i go about getting his old contacts and pictures off of the phone (not remove them, but I need to give send them to him) If I hook it up to a computer it will remove the contacts right?. What Can I do to safely export the pictures and the contact information?
