I have a strange issue with an iPhone.

It is contiously rebooting when it has nothing connected to its dock connector. It seems as if the sleep button is stuck. Connecting it to a charger or to a pc (itunes) makes the restarting stop. If I connect it to a pc when the pin code has to be entered, I get the slider to power off after a few seconds. So again, seems like the power/sleep button is stuck.

I first tried restoring a backup. Restored succesfully but the problem remained.

Did the same through recovery mode: problem remained.

Then I was convinced it is a hardware issue, so I ordered the headphone jack assembly form iFixit. This assembly includes the inner swith (not the outside plastic sleep button) of the iphone. Today I succesfully replaced the headhone jack assembly and to me very big surprise. The phone is still rebooting.

I have no clue anymore what this could be. New hardware switch and still it seems as if the sleep button is stuck.

It is an iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1.

Anybody an idea?

Thanks,
Michael
