Iphone cracked screen! Help!

I unfortunately dropped my phone on saturday night and i have cracked the glass on my phone.

The touch screen is still working but the crack is dangerous as glass keeps on coming off and it ruins the look.

Is there anyway i can fix this myself? i took it to apple but they couldn't help me as they don't do iphone repairs in the uk

what parts do i need and roughly how much will it cost to repair?
Is it a hard job to do or should i get an expert to do it?

Sorry for all the questions - hope you guys can help
 
was it in a case? I dropped mine getting out of my car in the parking lot and nothing happened.
 
Obvious answer is get a new one. That was an expensive mistake, I'd say. Until you can do that, why not get a case that covers the front?
 
i didn't have a case, although i will be investing in one :)

i dropped it while trying to get it out of my pocket, it fell on concrete from waist height

is there any way to repair it?

is this the best place to post this or should i be using another website?
 
the 3g phone has the glass and screen as a separate part... however with the 2g phones that glass is epoxyed to the lcd scree... you have to replace the entire screen on the phone... it costs $250 for a screen and $199 for a new phone

No case, then i have no sympathy for you.

where does it cost $199 for a new iphone.

you can get a replacement screen on ebay for $150-$180 wich is the lcd,digitizer and glass, not too hard to replace if you are moderately handy with taking stuff apart. just be patient and careful. im in the process of doing one myself.
 
i say sell it if you don't want to repair it yourself, on ebay or something, 1st gens still have a nice value,and buy a good one or a 3g
 
i can fix your prob. its a tough job. its not easy to seperate the glass and lcd. generally its impossible.. but im in the philippines. here's my email add don_austria13@yahoo.com
 
earlier this year I cracked my 2G iphone (this was before 3G came out) Apple Store sold me a refurbished one for less than what it would cost to buy a new one

other wise, there are places online that sell replacement screens (google is your friend) and I've seen some repair instructions on youtube
 
sell it on ebay (someone will buy it to take it apart and sell the individual parts for profit) take the money you made from the sale and upgrade to the 3g:)
