Okay, an hour ago, working fine, with 60% battery.

Picked it up, seemed dead. Pressed down the on button, nothing, not even the out of battery sign.

Plugged into laptop, nothing, not working at all.

:/

You can try forcing it into recovery mode and see if iTunes will recognize it for a restore. Hold down the home button while you connect it to the computer. You'll see the connect to iTunes graphic.

Thank you, it's on now.

But I've had various battery issues recently, and why does this happen?

I'm not happy :/

The battery has also gone down by 30%

How old is the phone? You may simply want to do a restore in iTunes get things in a fresh state.

It's about 6/ 7 months old. I did a refresh only the other day to try and sort the battery problems out  A month before that it had a full reset (not done from back up)

if its in warranty which it is, then your best bet is to make an appointment with apple and get it replaced.

I made an appointment last week. The women said it's all most liey a software issue as she tested the battery and it seemed fine.

Only I said it had been constantly powering off at 20% (she said this was normal) and one occasion it had lost 20% in 2 minutes which she said was most likely because I have the facebook application on my phone.

She told me I may need to restore it several times, I've restored it once.
