iPhone:Deleting existing calendar events.

I'm having a heck of a problem since upgrading to 2.0. I've completely given up on MobileMe for now and I'm simply trying to sync my iCal calendar to my 1st Gen. iPhone but I'm not having much luck. I put the iPhone on the cradle and check the appropriate box(s) for calendar events. The phone backs up then the syncing begins. However, an hour or so goes by and it is *still* syncing. Doesn't seem right.

So...I figure maybe I can delete all existing calendar stuff on my iPhone and start all over again. How can I do this?
