Since I am on the upgrade plan I’ve been using my phone caseless since last year and that has been going pretty well until I accidentally smacked it off my bathroom counter top and it received a minor dent on the stainless steel bezel. Do you think Apple will take the phone in as is when it’s time for the iPhone 13 or will I have to pay $99 or whatever it costs to fix it with AppleCare?

My experience with trade ins at the Apple Store is that they closely examine your device that's being traded in. They likely will lower what the trade in value is because of the dent. Wouldn't really pay for you to have it repaired for $99 or whatever Apple charges. Apple doesn't repair dents, they just replace the entire outer case.

Right, but OP is on the upgrade program in this instance, if OP is planning to upgrade, they will have to dish out the $99 bucks for one incident and then upgrade, if that’s what they will deem but it’s a hit or miss. So I don’t think it would lower the value of the trade in, in those instance.

OP, I’d just take it to the apple store near you and ask, you may get better answers from them.

I always use Applecare before sending in for a trade, I used to work in telecoms, they basically expect a brand new unit, otherwise it will be half the value for anything they find, UNLESS you take it to a store and have an apple rep visually inspect the device in person, sending it off its a huge risk.
