IPhone dillemna?

Need some info regarding buying the 3g online, im contemplating buying a 16 1st gen iphone of ebay for around £250, but i saw recently that cpw have been getting new stock online so my question is if you order one online do you still have to sign a contract or do you just get the iphone and sign the contract when activating.

You select your tariff whilst buying online which commits you to the 18 month contract for the chosen tariff as soon as you accept delivery of the phone. You can return it within 14 days under distance selling regulations but you can't keep the phone and not be committed to a contract.
