Iphone does not detect that I have headphones Plugged in

Recently my iphone would randomly pause while walking as if my headphones were being unplugged, but i would just unplug and plug them back in and it would work. Now, however, whenever I plug the headphones in the iphone doesnt even reconize that their is anything plugged in and it just continues to play out of the internal speaker. Ive tried cleaning it, no luck. Do I need to replace my headphone jack or what? Please help, ive looked everywhere for an answer =/

i had this problem with my 3GS.

i fixed it by blasting it with a can of compressed air

worked for me anyway!

You can try repeatedly plugging in the headphone to see if that does the trick, but the jack is probably faulty. Get it replaced.
