A friend of mine dropped his 3GS into the toilet and is just left with a Black Screen.

It connects to itunes ok and the phone can updated/restored etc

How would I go about tackling the black screen issue?

Any help would be great!

Turn it off immediately. Put it in a jar of rice or with a load of sachets of silica gel and leave for 24 hours. The rice/silica gel draws all the water out of the phone.

Ok, I've left it in and I'll see what happens.

If that doesnt work, whats the next option? Would I need to get him a replacement LCD screen?

If you hooked it up to your PC and it was wet, you likely fried the sucker.

Think you'll need a new phone if that doesn't work. I did something similar to my 3G. Think I did the same as you and plugged it in too so you might be lucky. Be warned though - my phone seemed a little eccentric afterwards, so be warned that it might not work perfectly any more

No joy with the Rice but the phone can be detected by the iTunes/PC

Anymore advice?

Not to take the piss and I agree it was a little ****** what happened, but doing anything other than turning it off and leaving it 24hours in rice/gel to dry out can cause fatal damage to more than just the LCD screen.
