iPhone earphones question

Can you adjust volume with these? I want to know if theyre the exact same as the ones coming out for the ipod (that have the mic). I was told the iPhone remote does not allow you to control volume just skip forward/back, pause, play.

I don't think they can. I think they can only play/pause and skip a track
