iPhone email doesn't show accents

I'm have my gmail account set as Exchange in my iPhone.

I can see the messages in preview with all accents without a problem. When I open the message the accents become gibberish.

What can I do to avoid it ?

Sometimes is very hard to understand the meaning.

My mother tongue is portuguese and there are a lot of accents used.

My iPhone is set to language english , keyboard and region Portuguese Brazil.
