Iphone External Remote

Guys,

Has anyone come out with an external remote for the 3g yet? Something that allows me to Fast Forward my audiobooks. Not interested in skipping.

Closest thing I've found is the Panasonic RP-BT10 and needless to see it's very flimsy and the telephonic feature doesn't work.

This is not possible yet because the current iPhone SDK does not allow 3rd Party applications to control the iPhone. The new iPhone SDK 3.0 will allow this and you should see products that go with an application on your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can control your iPhone with a remote for a stereo set if your iPhone is connected via the 30-pin connector, not an auxiliary cord.

i'm sorry I really haven't been following the latest - will 3.0 be a free upgrade or will it only be part of the next iphone?

It will most likely come installed on the new iPhones and is going to be a free upgrade to iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G owners, $9.95 for all iPod Touch owners.
