Ok, so on at&t's site if you look at the "common questions" thing which takes you to the plans.. it shows there's $129.99 for 700, etc. Now, I pretended I was going to order the iPhone on the site... and I am able to choose a 550 shared minutes option... does anyone know about this? I did some googling and found that there was a little uproar about it back when the iPhone came out.. that the 550 shared minutes plan wasn't available, but the site clearly shows it for order. I understand this is not at&t's forums, but I thought I'd give it a try.

Btw I am talking about the 3G; I'm not getting the phones and plans confused :p

My girlfriend and I are on that family plan. 550 shared minutes, unlimited nights and weekends. We also have unlimited text. So our monthly bill is around $150 for both lines. We both have 3g iphones.

We had no problems getting that plan either. Btw we were new at&t customers, when we signed up on the 3g launch day.

I'm not sure if that helps, as I really don't know if there is more to it that you are asking. If all your wondering is whether that plan is available, then yes it is.

Yes, this is a topic that comes up on a regular basis. The FamilyTalk 550 plan is not a national plan (not available in all markets). If it is available in your market (based on Zipcode) then you can take advantage of it.

The other potential limiting factor in the FamilyTalk 550 plan is that you are only allowed a max of 3 lines instead of the max of 5 lines in the other FamilyTalk plans.

This makes sense. I live in Maryland and this plan wasn't available for us. The lowest number of shared minutes we could get was 700.

When we first got our iPhones at Bethesda Row (MD), they told us we couldn't get the 550 plan, so we went with the 700. As soon as I got home, I logged into the AT&T billing site and changed my account from the 700 to the 550 plan and it worked fine. :D The change doesn't take effect until the next billing cycle though. So you only have to pay for the 700 plan for the first month, and from the 2nd month onwards you can use the 550 plan.

Damn. So, I guess I would have had to do this during the first month?

No, you can change your rate plan anytime. Please note: that you will loose any Rollover minutes above the new Monthly rate plan.

So if you have the FamilyTalk 700 plan and want to drop down to the FamilyTalk 550 plan and you have 1000 Rolllover minutes, you drop down to a max of 550 for month 1 carry over on the new service plan.
