Question for those of you with the family plan on your iPhones!

How exactly does it work? Is it different from the family plan with normal phones. Right now I have an iPhone 3g and my wife has a basic cell phone added onto my plan as an extra line for $9.99.

Would this stay the same if we BOTH were to get the new iPhone, and the only thing extra to pay for would be an extra $25 a month for the data plan for her phone?

I'm just looking for a break down of how the iPhone family plan works, not sure if there is a combined family data plan or if you pay for each individually. Any info on this would be appreciated, AT&Ts site isn't very clear.

The FamilyTalk plan works the same with two iPhones as regular phones. For your wife's add-a-line, as you guessed, she will have to add one of the new required iPhone data plan since there is no sharing of iPhone data plans.

You both may be required to pay the $18 Upgrade fee. You might also look at the $15 iPhone 200 MB data plan for your wife's line.

Unfortunately, there is no family data plan with any carrier here in the US. Data is charged per phone.

I am on a family plan with two iPhone's.

The plan is old since we were customers before the iPhone, but the base plan is $59.99 a month plus the $9.99 extra line fee. We both have our own data plan (unlimited) for $30, along with two text messaging plans, which are 1500 for $15 and 200 for $5. Our bill every month (including tax and other fees) comes to about $162.

My wife and I have shared a Family Plan since before the iPhones. We share minutes. We have separate data plans plans as required. However, we added the unlimited shared texts plan since we text each other like crazy throughout the day and when she's out of town for work.

You pay for:

- Shared voice minutes for the whole family
- Data Plan per phone (required, but now you have choice of plans)
- Text Plan per phone (not required, can be on 1 or both or none) (Also an option: Unlimited for the whole family)

Be sure to ask about the 550 minute voice plan. They lowest they advertise is 700 minutes, but you can get 550 minutes. I just switched to it.
