I just thought of this after hearing about some guy wanting Apple to put a chip in that listens for the sound of a fire alarm. What if the iPhone was instead equipped with a photoelectric light sensor?

Uhhh, it does have a light sensor.

I don't know what that would accomplish, or why I would want this. I wouldnt want my iPhone calling the fire department if the smoke alarm in my kitchen goes off, if that is the idea behind this

I'm picturing smokers setting it off, steamy showers....

Why would those set it off if they don't set off regular smoke detectors?

Ha! I had a place in MD with a built in one and anything set it off.

Every time I complained they'd tell me it wouldn't go off like that...

they can depending on the location of the alarm.

Either way its a clunky, kitschy, unnecessary feature that apple would never include.

Nowadays, there are kitchen smoke alarms that use photoelectric light sensors to reduce the number of false alarms.
