World exclusive, you heard it here first 😀 Since iPhone Fold will sit above iPhone Air in the lineup and not the Pro models, it makes sense that Apple will call it iPhone Air Duo or perhaps just iPhone Duo. The names sound great, clearly distinguish it from Samsung's Fold lineup, and reference the PowerBook Duo from the '90s.

I really don’t think so.
iPhone Ultra seems the most likely to me.
Apple clearly designates that term for devices above the Pro, see M1, M1Pro, M1Max and M1Ultra.
And the M1Ultra is two M1Maxes clunked together, same way they will advertise the iPhone Ultras as two iPhones folded together.
Doesn’t really matter if it lacks in the Camera department when compared to the Pro, that can be mostly brushed over and it isn’t even common to the foldable category.
Anyone who buys a phone purely based off the camera capabilities likely already are aware that the thick heavy slabs can fit more Camera.

It remains highly likely that the iPhone Air will morph into a flip device (if Apple even makes one) whilst the foldable device will resurrect their iBook branding. Better to release it as a whole new product catagory than try to make the iPhone lineup more complex.

Makes zero sense. It's a shortsighted name that would lock Apple in. Apple doesn't name stuff using such details. Is there a Mac Tower? Or Watch Square?

What happens when the inevitable tri-fold launches? Trio?

Naa, I think the Ultra title is tied up with durability and ruggedness on the mobile side, and this clearly won't be either of those..

Sure wish Apple would make an iPhone like that, though. Raised titanium lip around the screen, ip6x etc.

The “Ultra= Rugged” is only for the Apple Watch, I think that’s easily understood.
The “M3Ultra” isn’t any more rugged than the M3Max. For Apple, “Ultra” is just used above or when they don’t want to use “Pro”, “Max” or “Pro Max”.
Also for what it’s worth, Mark Gurman in a video interview from earlier this year said that he believed it would be “iPhone Ultra” as well.

I don’t think they will call the product anything without the word/branding “iPhone” in it.
If you will recall, the entire reason the iBook became the MacBook is because as Jobs said at MacWorld ‘06, “we’re kinda done with Power, and we want Mac somewhere in the name of our product”.
The same will be true with the iPhone, they will most certainly want that brand included front and center, it sells.
Same idea when they introduced the iPod Touch, way more than an iPod but of course they are going to use the famous brand.
“iPhone” is their signature product, its thething they have been most famous for for the better part of the last 20 years.

Keep your exclusive. It makes no sense whatsoever, unless the Fold plugs into a dock like the way cool Duos did.

I dunno, still think it would have been a great name. Duo for dual screens, even without Powerbook Duos functionality. But I did not consider Surface Duo so yeah... never mind!

I would place a years salary on this NOT being the case. iPhone Ultra is the most likely imo. This device, at least from a pricing perspective, will definetly sit above the Pro models, starting at least at $2,000.

Believe it or not I actually had a thought about the iPhone Duo name before as well. (This doesn't mean I believe they WILL use it, it was just a thought) Apple usually likes to have some products named differently from the competition, which is why I couldn't possibly imagine Apple using the word "Fold" in the name. Great idea by OP, but now I am convinced that iPhone Ultra is the most likely prediction.

Problem with it being called iPhone 'Ultra' is that it will not be the best in every category, especially the cameras. Also the Apple Watch Ultra is a very durable device, and the iPhone 'Fold' will probably be somewhat fragile, but then again the iPhone Air is extremely durable!
