Hi all,

this is a personal question:
My GF has a mentally disabled sister. She is 60, a sweet kind person and her mental capacity somewhere at the age between 9 and 13 years old. She lives in NYC and takes bus or subway to museums or broadway shows on her own and is semi self sufficient. We gave her a phone but she has the tendency to forget to charge it and she can't be really trusted with not downloading apps or not making purchases.

So we think about getting her a iPhone and use parental controls to lock the iPhone down so that she can text, domestic calls, basic web surfing, weather app and such.

Has somebody set up a phone for a special needs person in a similar situation and has a guide or tips and tricks how to do this the best way? Has anybody set something similar up for young kids?

Also, is there a way to put in audible reminders for her to charge the phone? How to set this up that the reminders are not during night time or when she's in a broadway show?

Thanks for any input and help!

Happy thanksgiving everyone!

I have not set it up myself, but at this link Apple has a pretty comprehensive help page that might help you.

You can use this to setup a Shortcut to have Siri announce when the battery is low. Looks like there is an option to "Ask Before Running" so she would get a silent popup asking if it is okay to run the shortcut. She could just ignore that popup when in the theater or whatever.
