Quite a difficult on to explain so here goes!

The facts:
iPhone 3G 16gb, latest firmware, never jail-broken.

The problem:
Everything worked perfectly until about 2 weeks before the latest update was released. It couldn't sync properly even after restores to backups and a complete restore. iTunes freezes and goes to spinning-beach-ball-of-death forever (i notice my mix of tenses there... it still does this). However i can sync new apps etc. Everything but music!

On the iPhone itself, you can navigate through the iPod bit fine. Click to play a song and it freezes on the selected track and refuses to budge. Have to leave it until it blacks out, or i hold the menu button for 8 or so seconds.

I'm lost here and can't find anything on the web anywhere, and just to second guess people, this was happening before the latest update and i have taken all the advice for buggered iphones on update and no luck with that either.

In short... help?
