iphone freezes itunes only when trying to sync

so earlier today, like 2 hours ago i synced my iphone and added some apps and all was well, however, 20 minutes later when i tried to sync it again, itunes just froze and gave me the beachball
i unchecked automatically sync, and now i can navigate itunes and such with the phone plugged in, but as soon as i hit 'sync' itunes freezes.
i'd rather not have to restore, that's a last resort

i think it might be something with my mobileinstallation file, but it worked earlier, so i dont know, but can anyone send me the stock 2.1 file anyway please?? thanks

is there a fix for this? any help appreciated
