short story shorter, i broke my 2g a week ago and my friend from tokyo says his dad will sell me his 3g for 100 bucks, but being in America will it work? will it only be in japanese? and will it be harder to unlock?
thank you for the help.

You can easily adjust the language settings in the settings menu. The only problem is 3G frequency bands. If I recall correctly you'll only have EDGE speeds.

Awesome! i currently nor do i plan to get a data plan and just use wifi on the phone. so i assume thats edge.

All iPhones sold in the USA and Japan feature the exact same hardware. The only iPhone with different hardware is sold in China.

You may need to unlock it, but you should have 3G speeds on at&t.

Ask him if its locked on a specific network or unlocked.
If its locked and not on 3.1.3 yet your can JB and unlock it for use on any carrier.
If not it will be just as an ipod touch.

if it is on 3.1.3 then i just have to wait for someone to figure out the unlock code right?
