When I was downloading the 3.1 software, the phone froze with a picture of the USB hookup and an arrow pointing to the word iTunes and a musical note on top of a CD. It wont move from this picture. The computer is telling me it is has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and then directs me to restore it. What happened and what do I do? Ive tried holding the home button and then turning it off, but it still shows that image. How do I proceed without losing my contacts and everything else?:(

if you synced your iphone to the same computer before, your contacts should be fine.

you will however, have to sync all of your music / videos / apps again though.

Try holding the home + power buttons for about 15 seconds, and then releasing the home button but still holding power for another 2 seconds or so. It should boot right up.
