iPhone GPS Photo data in roaming

I am taking a trip to South Africa and am planning on taking a DSLR to take photos but would like approximate location data. The plan is to take an iPhone photo in the areas I shoot the rest of the photos in order to get the GPS data. If I have data roaming off, will the GPS data still be pulled in? Thanks for the help.
