Does anyone know if the new iPhone has voice turn by turn direction?

Thanks,

Tim

Don't think it does OTB but the TomTom app may well support it. Having TomTom GPS app will be pretty useless without voice t-b-t.

So is Tom Tom is making a GPS app for the iPhone?

just wanted to clear that up,

Thanks

Update: Astute commenter Austin points out that these terms are copied almost word-for-word from the Google Maps API terms -- which means that TomTom and others are probably free to use their own maps to do real-time guidance.

it might werry well be no problem at all.

Thanks guys! Let's hope they allow the software, I would love to mount the iPhone in my car and use it as a GPS device.

Thanks!

Tim

Will the Tom Tom software also allow for heading up? This is a must when using in a car attached to the windshield and the narrow shape of the iPhone screen.

I'm interested in seeing how good the actual GPS functionality is. It was nigh on useless in my N95. That took ages to get a lock if at all, and you could forget it if you were moving at the time.

Actually on Palms GPS works Ok...Not steller but OK..
Problem is you have to buy the maps so this is yet an extra cost..
Your not going to be able to pull up google maps out of the box and see turn by turn directions. You have to buy the GPS map for your area.

TOMTOM works really well on the palm platform and they will make sure it does on the Iphone as well..

The cost is my biggest concern. The only example that I've been able to see for TomTom software for Windows Mobile was at least $130. I really like the idea of GPS, but I usually don't need it too much so will have a hard time justifying that much. I know that we have no idea what they will charge, I was just looking for an example.

Tomtom allows heading up, but default is 3D view which is better anyway.

A cheap A-GPS chipset might not be great, hope they found a good one. My current phone has a SiRF Star III which is great.
