Anybody think the the 2nd or 3rd generation iPhones Will have hard drives?

I think the Iphone is an awesome portable device as it is but I'd love to see it come out in 60gb-80gb models.

I'd definately purchase one if they had more memory.

Battery life (hard drives, no matter how large the buffer, still need to spin the drive a lot, this wastes battery life), durability, size....all of those and probably more :)

No hard drives in iPhones ever, and pretty soon, not in iPods either. I'm sure the all-flash 30 GB and 80 GB iPod designs are on the table, ready to go to production as soon as enough affordable flash can be obtained. By-bye hard drives in portable devices.

32gb solid-state drives are going for something like $400, I wonder how long it'll take for them to be more affordable.

An iPhone with an 80gb solid-state drive would pretty much be the best thing ever.

You also have to take into consideration that most companies get big ass discounts on flash memory when buying in bulk (1 mil+). I, as an investor in Apple, also have read multiple articles about Apple's incredible business relationship with Samsung(i want to say) and their flash division...so it may be closer than we think.

are you kidding me? it's mobile device. people drop it many times. hard drive is not opted for. it needs statable surface to work.

but don't worry. flash memory has been increased space. now, 32GB is available. so we just wait until price will drop.

Any reason why they won't have hard drives?

Battery life and fragility are the main reasons. Drop your iPhone with a harddrive, and now you have to worry about your screen breaking or screwing up your harddrive. Like others have said, you will never see a harddrive in an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Heck, even the laptops are slowly changing over to flash drives. It'll take longer, but they're on their way.

I can pretty much promise you that no Apple product that exclusively has flash memory will ever go backwards on this. They're not going to come out with a new Macbook Air that's thicker, slower, and more fragile anytime soon. That would be a terrible idea.

Same thing with the iPhone. Would that be the ad? Thicker, heavier, worse battery life, your apps run slower and it breaks easier!

How many people would buy that?
